Innovative Design Group is guided by two highly talented and experienced Principals, Ian R. Waddell, P.E., and Steven J. Kuhn, AIA, who, together have accumulated over 50 years of allied knowledge in the parking design, parking structure engineering and development of commercial buildings and parking structures.

Ian R. Waddell, P.E., is Chief Executive Officer and Principal of Innovative Design Group, a firm he and partner Steven Kuhn established in 1993, specializing in Design of Commercial Buildings, with a heavy emphasis in Parking Structure Design. He has held Senior Management positions with several construction, engineering, and consulting firms in the past, including his own consulting and management firm, Waddell & Associates, founded in 1983 and based in Vancouver, B.C. Mr. Waddell also established and headed up the Parking Structure Design Build Division for Saffell & McAdam, Inc. for 10 years, developing it into a very lucrative enterprise for this Orange County Contractor.
Read MoreA graduate with honors at the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil and Structural Engineering, Mr. Waddell has spent more than 30 years in the construction industry. After graduation he joined Toronto-based Read, Jones Christoffersen Ltd. where he gained vast experience serving in various capacities on high-rise commercial and residential, industrial, retail, and specialty building structures. Then, as a partner and Development Manager at Humberline Developments, Ltd., he had complete responsibility for all design and construction programs, awarding contracts and supervising all phases of the development projects.
Subsequently, Mr. Waddell jointed VSL Corporation, U.S.A., as Toronto Branch Manager, and was promoted to Division Manager Canada after one year. Moving to Vancouver, B.C., he became a partner with Pillar Development and Construction, Ltd. In 1983, Ian Waddell left to form his own engineering, construction, and development management company, Waddell & Associates, with projects in Canada as well as the states of Washington, Oregon, and California.
At Innovative Design Group, Ian Waddell is involved in all aspects of the business, including parking structure engineering, parking planning, parking garage designs, marketing, administration and client relations. His comprehensive and extensive experience in the building industry ensures that Innovative Design Group’s projects are of the highest quality while maintaining that competitive edge.
Mr. Waddell is an Associate Member of the Post Tensioning Institute and the National Parking Association. He is a Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California, as well as a Structural and Civil Engineer in both Ontario and British Columbia, Canada. He holds General Contractors’ Licenses in the State of California for (A) General Engineering and (B) Building Construction.

Steven J. Kuhn, AIA, is President and Principal in Charge of Innovative Design Group, a company he and partner Ian Waddell founded in 1993. Mr. Kuhn brings to this partnership over 25 years of expertise in project design and construction, with strong project organization, quality control, and project management skills. A licensed California Architect, he oversees projects from start to finish, ensuring that every step is completed to the client’s satisfaction. In his position, he gets involved in new business development, proposal presentations, project administration, and handling all aspects of processing projects with governmental agencies, from city planning approvals through building department approvals and inspections in many jurisdictions.

Working 7 years in Project Design and Construction Management as a Job Captain for Don Felts, AIA, he then moved on to the position of Project Engineer at McCarthy Pacific for 3 years, before joining Wayne Banks & Associates, Inc., as a Senior Associate. After 6 years in this position, he left to establish Innovative Design Group.
Steven Kuhn focuses on obtaining a clear understanding of a client’s goals and expectations before beginning a project, which, along with strong organizational skills, ensures that Innovative Design Group’s projects are completed on time and within budget. His construction background, coupled with management experience, helps him to provide quality parking garage architectural design solutions. His knowledge of all phases of a parking project, from parking structure design through parking garage construction, assists him in viewing all possible considerations when approaching a parking project.
Frank Mendoza, III, Associate

Frank Mendoza III is an Associate at Innovative Design Group, and has spent over 17 years in the architectural and engineering design field, eight of which have been specifically in parking garage designing and parking garage planning. His responsibilities include design team coordination, production team management, development of contract documents, agency coordination, and construction administration.
Read MoreAfter successfully completing the CADD technology program at Rio Hondo College, Mr. Mendoza entered the field as a CAD operator. Continuing his education in the evenings, Mr. Mendoza went on to hone his CADD skills and strengthen his coordination abilities while growing professionally. He steadily learned drawing development and grew into a leader holding senior and lead positions at previous firms. He then became an assistant project manager at Walker Parking Consultants where he learned the intricacies of parking while creating drawing packages, coordinating with governing agencies and managing construction. Most recently he spent the last 4 years as a parking project manager for Choate Parking Consultants for both design-build and Architectural prime projects.
Frank Mendoza III shares the commitment to quality service held by the Principals of Innovative Design Group - keeping costs low, staying on budget, performing work on schedule, and offering personalized hands-on service to the firm’s clients. Michel Pelletier, Associate

Michel Pelletier is an Associate at Innovative Design Group, and has spent nearly 25 years in the architectural and structural parking design field. He has been working with Innovative Design Group since 2000.
A graduate of Vancouver College’s Architectural and Structural Design program. Mr. Pelletier worked as a freelance architectural and structural draftsman through most of the eighties. He started his drafting career working for a full service design firm mainly involved in the mining industry.
Mr. Pelletier worked mostly in structural engineering for BPA Group. He spent fourteen years with the firm, the last four as a partner in charge of drafting production. His responsibilities included computer network administration and maintenance, CAD and office managerial duties and CAD related programming in LISP and VBA. He also performed basic structural design for wood frame and concrete construction.
Joey Manasan, Senior Draftsman

Joey Manasan is a Senior Draftsman at Innovative Design Group, and has spent 15 years in the architectural and engineering field, six of which have been specifically in parking garage designing and parking garage planning. His responsibilities include preparing projects from design development to construction documents for new construction and tenant improvements. He is also responsible for coordination between architectural into other disciplines. Mr. Manasan earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from National University, Philippines in 1994 He is a native of the Island of Guam, a United States territory, where he spent most of his architectural experience. Mr. Manasan’s recent experience includes over four years as a senior designer at Choate Parking Consultants, before he joined Innovative Design Group. He is consistent, detail oriented and ensures that all details are coordinated with the project manager for the progress of the project.
